I don't know how else to tell you this but to come right out and tell you. I know you'll probably never talk to me again. I hope though that you'll be able to get over this and that maybe will laugh one day about this with our grandkids. That's if you don't straight pull a Lorena Bobbitt on me and cut off my d**k and throw it in the field.

And before you get all emotional, don't think that this is a break up letter because it's not. It's more misunderstanding letter if that makes any sense. And it doesn't. I just read over it and I know I'm rambling and not making much sense right now. Anyway, I'll just come right out with it.

The ring that you're wearing, y'know the one I got you for Christmas? It's not what you think it is. I just didn't have the heart to tell you any different. You were just so excited and I couldn't tell you no. And your parents were there and everything. Ok I'm rambling again. I'll just get on with it.

When I saw that ring at the jewelry store I knew that it'd be perfect for you. You always told me how much you like emeralds and how everyone always told them that they made your eyes sparkle. I had actually planned on getting you a pair of emerald earrings for Christmas but the ring was on sale so I got it instead. I honestly didn't know that you would think that the ring was an engagement ring. I mean diamonds are for engagements, right?

So when you started crying and telling me yes, I couldn't tell you that I didn't mean it. And then your parents were there with the video recorder and all. Everyone was so happy and I got caught up in the moment too. Don't get me wrong I will probably ask you to marry me one day. That day is just not today. And it wasn't on Christmas either. So I guess it's all just a big mess right now.

I won't blame you if you want to break up with me completely. I don't want that but I do want to call off our engagement or whatever it was that you thought was our engagement. I honestly didn't mean to hurt you. I'm just not ready for all of this right now. I'm not ready for us to be that serious. I mean we're still really getting to know each other. I don't think either of us is ready to get married. At least I'm not.

Well I guess that's it. I really do love you. Please don't take this too hard. It's really not a big deal. I really did get you a ring. Maybe it's not an engagement ring but it's still a ring. And it still means that I love you.
